Che Spotting #4

Wayzata, Minnesota, USA
El Che makes an appearance in a well-to-do suburb.

One of the things we love about Che is that he shows up in the most unlikely places. This picture is the perfect example.

It was taken in Wayzata, Minnesota, an upscale suburb of Minneapolis.

Wayzata (pronounced Why-zet-ah) is perhaps the most notoriously snooty of all the Minneapolis ‘burbs.

Whether or not the town deserves this stereotype is a discussion for another place and time. Wayzata, though, isn’t so stuck up that it’s devoid of the most common American icon: McDonald’s.

Inside that Wayzata McDonald’s is a Redbox movie rental machine, and inside that Redbox movie rental machine is a copy of Che (aka Che Guevara).

Before you run out and grab a copy from your nearest Redbox, you might want to check out our review of it.

And we were also going to suggest you reserve a copy at the Redbox web site to make sure it was in stock.

Oddly enough, though, after a visit there, we were frustrated and confused. We couldn’t find this movie title listed anywhere in the Redbox site. It wasn’t listed alphabetically, under “special interest,” “foreign,” “war,” or “action.” A site-wide search didn’t even turn it up.

Strange indeed. Especially since we’ve got the picture to prove the movie is floating around somewhere in the Redbox system.

Then again, Che is a mysterious fellow.
