El Mozote, El Salvador
Che Gets Crafty

This photo was submitted by traveler Daphne H.

She snapped it while traveling in El Salvador.

Daphne has been lucky enough to visit El Salvador numerous times. She and another woman run a teacher-to-teacher exchange program there.

Each year since 2000, a group of teachers (many of them Alaskan) travels to El Salvador and participate in an English-language exchange with Salvadorian English teachers. The American teachers help the Salvadorian teachers practice their pronunciation, answer cultural questions and share ideas for new classroom activities.

A couple years ago, while in El Salvador, Daphne traveled to the mountain village of El Mozote. In 1981, a massacre occurred in the village during El Salvador’s civil war.

Daphne attended a commemoration of the massacre, and it was there that she spied this vendor sporting a Che t-shirt.

  1. I am so happy and grateful to see my friends from Alaska helping Salvadoran teachers to improve our teaching skills. It´s a dream that has come true for English teachers in El Salvador.
There´s no doubt that Teacher-to-Teacher represents the most beautiful face of the United States…

    My best regards,

    Sincerely,
